Foods To Help With ConstipationNew parents tend to worry about many things, including baby constipation. If it's been a few days since your baby has had a bowel movement, rest assured. This does not always mean he is constipated. If he is exclusively breastfed, then chances are he's fine. Constipation is very rare among babies who are only breastfeeding. Formula fed babies can become constipated, but it's not uncommon for them to wait 2 to 3 days between bowel movements.

So, how do you know if your baby is constipated? The most accurate indicator is your baby's behavior and the consistency of the bowel movements when they do occur. If the bowel movement is hard and seems to be difficult or painful for the baby, then there is a chance he may be constipated. If he is constipated, you should see your doctor to rule out any underlying health problems.

Your doctor may advise you to switch formulas or offer your baby a small amount of extra water or prune juice once a day. Ease the discomfort associated with baby constipation with massage, warm baths or exercising his legs in a bicycle motion.

If you have already begun giving your baby solid foods, you may be told to cut back on certain foods such as rice cereal, bananas and carrots. Adding apple or prune juice, and pureed fruits and vegetables may also help ease constipation.

Over the counter medicines such as stool softeners and glycerin suppositories may be used occasionally. Be sure not to use suppositories on a regular basis because your baby could become dependent on them, passing stools only when a suppository is used.

Whichever method you use to treat baby constipation, remember that this is usually a temporary problem and that it rarely indicates a medical condition. Try not to worry and be sure to follow your doctors instructions. Call your doctor if your baby appears to be in extreme pain.

can a high fiber diet cause your period to be late?
my period used to get irregular every once in a while, but it has been pretty normal for the past couple years. recently, I've started to eat a lot of high fiber foods to help with constipation. My period was supposed to come a little less than a week ago, but it's still not here. I am sexually active so there is always the possibility of pregnancy. I'm not on birth control, but my bf and I do ALWAYS use condoms and as far as I know none have been defective. So that being said, I'm hoping the cause is something other than pregnancy ... and I have heard that a high fiber diet can cause irregular periods ...but I've only heard it from one person. Basically ...I'd just like some other theories of why I could be late after being pretty regular for a good while now. The only big diet change is higher fiber. note: I've taken 3 pregnancy tests and so far they've all turned out negative

Foods to help with constipation?
Ive been constipated for 6 days now, (laxatives dont help) and Im not shure why, because I eat fruits, fiber, and drink water. Anyway, today ive eaten porrige, an apple, beans on toast, the toast was wholemeal. And my mum bought me some dried apricots, she says they help. For tea, imma have veggie soup, with ryvita, and then a pear afterwards. Does that sound ok? Like will that help with constipation?? What other foods will help??
