Malnourished Dog

Foods For Bowel MovementMalnourished dogs are everywhere, particularly the stray dogs. Learn on how to prevent and treat them.

Like humans, dogs are also prone to become malnourished. Particularly, those who are homeless or stray dogs, they dont have enough sources to where they should get their food. The farm dogs are also prone to become malnourished since they have to fend for themselves. Those dogs which are being abused by humans can also be malnourished. They are not only physically hurt, but emotionally too.

Symptoms of Malnourishment in Dogs:

1. There are abnormalities in the physical appearance. Usually, the ribs and bones are visible even from a distance. The coat is messy and dry.
2. They may produce foul odor gas. Their bowel movement is inconsistent and they produce small amount of waste. They also suffer pain while defecating. In severe malnourished dogs, they vomit bile.
3. They are weak and cannot be able to perform well in their daily activities. They just want to stay in one place as if they are depressed.
4. They get other diseases aside from being malnourished. This is because they dont have enough nutrients to fight them.

How to prevent malnourishment in dogs?

1. Dogs should receive high quality dog food like Dogswell pet food.
2. Stray dogs should be adopted so that somebody will take care of them.
3. Those pet owners or other humans who abuse dogs should face legal charges.
4. Those pet owners should be responsible in taking care of their dogs.

How to treat malnourishment in dogs?

Establish rapport:

Because malnourished dogs have gone through lots of deprivation and painful experiences, you should establish trust with them. You may offer them good quality dog food like Natural Balance. After you have given the food, leave them for a while. This will give them time to grab the food. Slowly, get closer to them until you may touch them already. Once you have gotten their trust, you may bring them to a safe place.

Keep them warm and comfortable:

Give them a place where they can have comfort and warmth. Since they dont have enough fats and muscles, they are very sensitive to cold weather. Put them near the fire place or near the heater.

Offer them food:

This is your top most priority that you should do. Aside from the dog food, mix other protein rich foods like egg or meat. If they want more, you may add another bowl. But remember, do not overfeed them as this may lead them to have stomach upset and vomit. After they eat, you may offer water to hydrate them. Even if they are not eating, make sure that there is adequate water for them to drink. Aside from the normal meal, give snacks to them like cheese, beef, or chicken. Never give them fillers like grains, corns, and wheat. You may also give them dog treat as their snacks.

Bring them to the Vet:

The vet will check the dogs for other underlying diseases which they may have. They may go through different diagnostic exams. Bringing to the vet will also give them the chance to be groomed well.

Inform the authorities:

If you dont have plans to adopt the dogs, you may inform the authorities so that they can be brought to the shelter. The authorities will be the one who will look for their potential pet owners.
