Do You Need To Lose Weight? Try A High Fiber Diet

Fiber Foods ConstipationLosing weight and keeping it off isn't easy. After all, statistics show that only about 5% of dieters who have lost weight are able to keep it off. This really isn't surprising when you consider the fact that having to reduce calories means spending a lot of time feeling hungry. Often you may find that when you reduce calories you start becoming irregular which causes you to feel sluggish. Luckily there is a way to curb your appetite and prevent constipation by enjoying a high fiber diet.

Getting enough fiber in your diet is easy when you add plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains such as brown rice, oatmeal and whole grain bread. If you are finding that you still aren't getting enough fiber you can add a fiber supplement.. One trick is to take a fiber supplement with a full glass of water 30 minutes before dinner to curb your appetite so that you will naturally consume less calories at what is traditionally the biggest meal of the day.

Health Benefits of a High Fiber Diet There are many health benefits to eating a high fiber diet. Besides preventing constipation, fiber can also help prevent health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and even certain types of cancer. When increasing fiber to your diet be sure to add it slowly over time to prevent stomach upset. This is even more important if you are currently getting very little fiber in your diet.

The recommended amount of fiber for a healthy diet is 25 to 35 grams. And while eating a high fiber diet is a healthy way to lose weight it is still important to watch portion sizes. Read labels so that you understand the proper portion sizes of whole grains such as breads and cereals. Beans, nuts and legumes are are a good source of both protein and fiber while green, leafy vegetables are a great addition to your diet because they are so low in calories. Fruit is also a good source of fiber but be sure to choose the whole fruit over juice since there is very little, if any fiber in most fruit juice.

Losing weight is never easy but choosing the right foods such as those found in a high fiber diet can really help with your weight loss goals.. When consuming extra fiber be sure to drink at least 6-8 ounce glasses or water water each day since the two work together in helping to maintain regularity. Just remember to always talk to your Dr before starting any type of diet and exercise plan. Also be sure to eat at least 1200 calories per day or more depending on your age, sex and fitness level. Ask your Dr for dietary guidelines to help you decide the right amount of calories to meet your dietary needs.
